As I sat in the hospital for months on end, watching people come
and go, I decided to try and form a foundation for kids and families
affected by childhood illness. Our main focus is to help families with
GI issues. This section of the medical world is under funded, under
researched, and there is little awareness about these conditions.
I have had the great honor of traveling to Washington dc to speak on
capital hill about gi health, this only lit my fire more than ever. I
have also got the great honor to talk with many people in the medical
profession about Sophia and her GI issues.
My mission is to pay it forward for all the help that people have given
my family. 2013 will start this campaign. While I fill out our paper
work for our 501c and wait for the official non-profit status we have
decided to start with small projects to get our feet wet.
Our First Project
Welcome to the World of Tubies
As I was in the Doctor’s office last week I found myself thinking of
what we could do to give back. Dr M was running two hours late so there
was plenty of time to think. I was sitting by a new mom and her son had a
feeding tube. She was saying how nervous she was to take him home. I
quickly wrote down all the connections I had that help me through tough
times and gave her my phone number. Today I received a text from her saying how thankful she was for the support.
She said “I would have gone crazy without the information you gave me”
With that I decided that I want to compile all my resources and make “welcome to the world of tubie bags”
Sophia has a stuffed animal that is just like her (it has all her same
cords). It is a great way to teach everyone what all her cords mean and
she loves showing it off. I would like to put one of those in there and I
book about tubies. Some pamphlets for the parents and so on…
Anyone who would like to help please let me know. or send to
